Helps For Those Using Interpreters
All cross-cultural workers should have it as their eventual goal to learn the local language of the people with whom they're ministering. However, during that language Learning era, maybe you'll have to use an interpreter some. If so, check out the new compendium, "Interpreting as Ministry" and "Speaking with an Interpreter." (Evidently these are published together within the same covers.)
Find 200 helpful tips to enrich your ministry and help you be a more effective communicator. "Speaking with an Interpreter" is written by Beverly Caruso, author and trainer of writers. Bev has spoken in over 30 nations, often through interpreters. "Interpreting as Ministry" is written by Jim Harper, Founder and Director of the International Christian Interpreters Association, headquartered in Vladivostok, Russia.
Jim conducts one-week schools for Interpreters. Through interviews and questionnaires with missionaries from various missions and denominations, from all parts of the world, you'll find reading both sections of this booklet useful for yourself and your interpreters. Presented in one pocket-sized booklet, this handy 20-page tool is priced so you can carry with you enough copies to leave one with each of your interpreters.

Need a Take-Along Water Filter?
Have you seen the new Ultimate Flask filter water filter? It's supposed to take out all the Cryptosporidium and Giardia you can throw its way. It looks exactly like one of those water bottles you slide into the holder on your bike. You just fill the bottle and squeeze. A filter cleans about 200 liters of water (52 gallons), depending on the amount of impurities in the water. Replacement filters are $10.
In the USA ( call 1-800-426-7229 or from outside the USA call 208-356-0385. What I like about this approach is that one would be able to escape the funny feeling one sometimes gets in a private home, taking water from the faucet and then filtering it. *Sometimes* I feel like the implication is that the water just isn't pure enough for me. . . when the local person drinks it daily. With this Ultimate Flask Filter, one could be a little more . . . shall we say . . . discreet.
They're on the web at www.ultdir.com. I've had one of their water bottle "holsters" for 7 or 8 years . . . and if you drink water, you want to get to know them.
Water Filters To Go
The one liter sport style AquaOne Portable Water Filtration Bottle can, according to its makers, purify just about any water from just about any of world's spigots. Including the original filter, it costs just $20. Each filter is good for 70 gallons. Replacement filters cost just $13.50.
